WOW!
I mean, really… Just, WOW.
How else can you describe the present circumstances?
We’re facing an unprecedented moment in modern human history…
The sudden and swift spread of COVID-19 (AKA the Coronavirus) has generated a worldwide panic and recently lead the World Health Organization to declare the outbreak a global pandemic.
Most countries have declared some sort of “shelter in place” order, banning all “non-essential” excursions outside the home. And those nations that haven’t are likely headed in that direction.
In turn, many facets of our collective world have ground to halt. Sports leagues at every level have been shut down. Film and TV productions have been placed on hiatus. Schools, from K-thru-12 to the college level have been closed, with most classes being transferred to “online learning environments.” Gatherings of just about every scale of been postponed or outright canceled. And many employees are working from home, been placed on leave, or outrigh laid off.
And as a result, a great many businesses have been left wonder: “How can we possibly survive?”
Again, WOW!
In truth, I say WOW to the reaction more than anything. Personally, I feel the borderline “all-out PANIC!” response to be somewhat overblown. The reality is, a very slim percentage of the population is legitimately at risk. And many of those folks are at risk from any number of pathogens and other health-related challenges that have nothing to do with the coronavirus.
But I could be dead wrong (pun somewhat intended). I certainly do NOT possess any special knowledge or insight when it comes to infectious diseases. And the current situation could certainly spiral much further out of control.
Anyway, regardless of my feelings on the issue at hand, actions have been taken and the wheels set in motion to quell the spread of the coronavirus. And I hope these measures prove effective, and this extremely unfortunate situation concludes as quickly as possible.
At the same time, I SINCERELY hope this outbreak, and the collective response, does not topple the global economy. It’s difficult not to worry that “cure” for this ailment may wind up being far worse than the actual disease.
Which brings me to the meat of this post…
Many business owners are asking themselves: “Is now REALLY the right time to be ‘marketing’ my services?”
And the short, sweet, and to the point answer is a resounding… YES!!!
Big Picture…
The sun will rise tomorrow. The earth will keep turning. And life will go on.
Sure, there will be some blips on our collective radar screen. And those blips may be bigger for some than others. But whatever happens, it’s highly unlikely that it will result in the sky falling.
And on the Smaller Screen (Closer to Your Home)…
Are you a tax professional?
Well, the government has just announced a delay in income tax collection. And they’re likely to be unleashing a SLEW of tax breaks, deferments, and other exemptions and exceptions. Meanwhile, your clients are going to depend on you to take FULL advantage of these measures. Moreover, taxes still need to be filed. And the government will come looking for their money, whether sooner or later. Which means your services are still vital. And probably more so now than ever.
Are you an attorney?
The potential for legal wrangling on the horizon with that may be coming down the pike amid “coronavirus frenzy” is likely to be TREEEEEEMENDOUS! Whether we’re talking business law, real estate, labor and employment, and so on… Your skills and expertise are going to be IN-DEMAND as the world attempts to sort out the post-coronavirus fallout.
Are you a real estate agent?
Homeowners are going to be downsizing or looking to get out of houses they’re worried they can’t afford (in the face of surging recession predictions). In turn, buyers are going to be looking to take advantage of “motivated sellers.” And the whole process will be spurred on by a 0% interest (thanks to the whackadoo Trump administration’s latest financial manipulations).
These are just a few examples…
The skills of countless folks in the professional services game will remain highly sought after.
The Point Being…
Marketing your services is as important now as ever. In truth, marketing may be MORE important to your business now than ever before.
Of course, tact and consideration are a MUST. Now is NOT the time for tone-deaf promotion. But rather acknowledging your client’s concerns, empathizing with their plight, and presenting yourself as a trusted resource amid this crazy occurrence.
